Paul Shafer debuted the first version of Monster Patrol in 1993. The truck was originally based off of Shafer's mud truck, Mud Patrol. Monster Patrol has undergone a few different paint jobs and sponsor ships, with the truck's black and green paint job being most famous. Purple and red designs and purple and white designs were also ran by Shafer. In 1993, future Maximum Destruction driver, Tom Meents, would drive a Monster Patrol for two years. During this time, and just shortly after his debut, Meents and Monster Patrol were unfortunately involved in an accident that fatally injured one of Tom's best friends at the time. The truck lost control during a race and crashed into some hay bales, where he was sitting. Nonetheless, Tom continued driving Monster Patrol until 1999, when he would leave Shafer's team to drive Bulldozer. Meents and Shafer would drive Monster Patrol in the PENDA Points Series and Monster Jam. Kirk Dabney would campaign a Monster Patrol from 2004 to 2010 and Michael Phelps would campaign a Monster Patrol from 2013 to 2015. Monster Patrol has also competed in the Extreme Monster Trucks Australia tour. Monster Patrol is featured in games Monster Truck Madness, Monster Truck Madness 2, Monster Truck Madness 64, and Monster Truck Destruction.
