Iron Man is a custom monster truck created by FELD Motorsports and owned by Marvel Comics. It was originally run from 2010-2014, based on the comic book character of the same name, as a part of Marvel's second contract with Monster Jam. It was primarily driven by Lee O'Donnell throughout its runtime, as well as Dustin Brown, Morgan Kane, and Scott Buetow driving it during select seasons. The truck made its re-debut with the third renewal of the Marvel contract in 2023.

History[]

Generation 1[]

2010-2011[]

Iron Man is announced to begin competing in 2010, alongside a revived Spider-Man, as a part of Marvel Comics' return to Monster Jam with their second contract. Iron Man later debuted with Lee O'Donnell driving at the live broadcast Atlanta show. The truck also competed at the World Finals the same year, losing in round 1, but finishing 9th in freestyle. In 2011, Scott Buetow would debut a second Iron Man truck. It would also make its international debut in Costa Rica. Lee would compete at the World Finals again, once again losing in round 1, but notably finishing 4th in freestyle.

2012[]

Lee and Scott continue to drive the truck. Scott later competes at the inaugural Youngs Gun Shootdown at World Finals XIII, losing in round 1 to Nicole Johnson. Lee once again competed at the World Finals main field, losing in round 2 and finishing 15th in freestyle. In Arnhem, Coty Saucier drove the truck.

2013[]

Scott leaves the team and moves to Team Hot Wheels Firestorm. Morgan Kane takes over as the driver for the second truck. Morgan later drove the truck at the Young Guns Shootout while Lee drove at the World Finals. Morgan would make it to the final round of the YGS, but would lose to Joe Sylvester. Lee would notably be the 2nd fastest qualifier, but would lose in his first race. He then finished 5th in freestyle. Later that year, Lee ran a unique design on Iron Man for the Path of Destruction Tour with a Mark 42 design to promote the Iron Man 3 movie.

2014-2018[]

Morgan leaves the team and moves to Max-D. Dustin Brown takes over the second truck. Lee would compete at World Finals XV. During the event, there would be a very notable controversy during racing. Lee would make it to the semi-finals against Tom Meents. During the race, Tom would get shut off inadvertently resulting in Lee winning. However, they would controversially re-run the race where Tom would beat Lee, resulting in a frustrated Lee. Lee would later perform during the racing encore. The next day, he later finished in a four-way tie for 16th in freestyle. At the end of the year, the FELD-Marvel contract expires, and the truck is retired. Lee's truck is converted to Zombie Hunter while Dustin moved to Monster Mutt. The original Iron Man concept body would be modified and became Alien Invasion. The truck is later featured in a YouTube poll in 2018, asking fans what their favorite discontinued truck is.

Generation 2[]

The third Marvel contract would be renewed with Monster Jam, with Iron Man making its redebut in London on July 15th, 2023, along with Black Panther, Spider-Man and Thor. Here, it was driven Brandon Arthur, who went on to win racing. In 2024, Brandon will continue driving the truck for international events.

Trivia[]

  • At its first shows in Costa Rica, the truck emerged from a giant McDonald's box, seemingly done as a sponsorship for the international show.
  • As stated above, its body mold would later be reused for Alien Invasion, with the most notable mold difference being the back of the truck being altered slightly and removing the rockets at the back sides.
  • The chassis used by Buetow, Kane, and Brown later became Brianna Mahon's first Scooby-Doo.
  • In 2012, Iron Man, along with all other existing Marvel trucks at the time were originally scheduled to compete at a unique event called "Marvel Monster Trucks Live". The event, however, was eventually cancelled a year before it was meant to take place, likely because of the show being too complicated and expensive to create.
