Pastrana 199 was a Dodge and a Ford monster truck owned by FELD Motorsports. It was based around the stunt performer, Travis Pastrana. Since its debut in 2005, the truck was driven by various drivers over the course of its career, with its most notable being Paul Cohen, Courtney Jolly, and Cam McQueen. The truck has also competed in five Monster Jam World Finals.

History[]

  • 2005 - Pastrana 199 debuts at the start of the season, with former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle driver Paul Cohen behind the wheel. The truck features a Dodge Ram body and tours alongside Charlie Pauken's Grave Digger. Paul wins racing in El Paso and would later get invited to compete in World Finals VI. At end of the year in Minneapolis, part of the 2006 season, Paul smashes the truck through a motorhome and tears off the bodywork during freestyle, which earns him the freestyle win for the event.
  • 2006 - Paul moves to the new Air Force Afterburner truck at the start of the 2006 season and rookie driver Courtney Jolly takes over the driving duties for Pastrana 199, touring alongside Chad Tingler in Grave Digger. Though Courtney drives the truck through the season, Chad is chosen to drive Pastrana 199 at World Finals VII. In the off-season, Pastrana 199 receives a new body style, this being a 2006 Ford F-150, and would be campaigned on the Inferno chassis for the remainder of the year. Kathy Winston drives Pastrana 199 in Franklin during the Summer Heat series.
  • 2007 - Courtney remains the static driver for Pastrana 199, touring with Chad Fortune and Superman. After missing out the previous year, Courtney gets the invite to World Finals VIII, which proves to be her only World Finals appearance. Pastrana 199 runs at the Antwerp show on the European Tour under Dan Evans as a one-off replacement for Jetix.
  • 2008 - Pastrana 199 still competes with Courtney going into the season, however she would suffer an injury following a hard landing at Detroit while driving the 106.7 The Fox body on the truck's chassis, resulting in her slipping several discs in her back and putting her out of action for the rest of the season. Pastrana 199 has several fill-in drivers over the course of the season including Lee O’Donnell, Norm Miller and a new rookie driver, Cam McQueen. Lee and Norm drive Pastrana 199 in the United States while Cam would drive the truck throughout shows in Canada. Cam also gets the invitation to drive Pastrana 199 at World Finals IX, where Courtney would provide commentary for him during his freestyle run. In the off-season, Cam continues to drive Pastrna 199 as Courtney returns from her injury to drive the truck at the Monsters on Mainstreet 2008 show, but retires not long after.
  • 2009 - Pastrana 199 runs its final season. Following Courtney's retirement, Cam takes over the driving duties full-time for the 2009 season, touring with Marc McDonald and Safe Auto Minimizer. Original driver, Paul Cohen, would make a very brief return to drive Pastrana 199 at the second Houston show. Cam and the truck are invited to compete at World Finals X, which ends up being the final event for Pastrana 199, competing only in racing. For freestyle, Pastrana 199 is converted into Nitro Circus with Travis Pastrana driving. Nitro Circus then takes over as the new sponsored truck for Travis for the 2010 season and Pastrana 199 is retired.

Trivia[]

  • The "199" portion of the name comes from the number that Pastrana carries on all his motorcycles and rally cars.
  • Despite the name, Travis Pastrana never drove Pastrana 199 in competition.
  • The chassis for Pastrana 199 had an extra passenger seat behind the driver’s seat. This was mainly done so the truck could be used for the VIP driving experience, replacing Inferno. Ironically, the chassis for Inferno was used for Pastrana 199 for the 2006 European Tour.
  • Pastrana 199 was one of only three trucks owned by FELD Motorsports to utilize a Dodge Ram body style, the other two being Man of Steel and The Rod Ryan Show.
  • The 2006 Hot Wheels 1:24 scale release of Pastrana 199 erroneously featured the truck using a Chevrolet Silverado body style. To add to that, the following release featured a red-black gradient, which was never featured on the actual truck.
  • Pastrana 199 was featured in the Thrillbillies DVD as an exhibition performance alongside Grave Digger. For that occasion, the truck was driven by Frank Krmel.[1]
  • Pastrana 199 featured multiple touring partners throughout the first quarter, receiving a new one every season. The truck’s touring partners included:
    • Grave Digger (Charlie Pauken) (2005) (Excluding Minneapolis show 3)
    • Grave Digger (Chad Tingler) (2006, 2008)
    • Superman (2007)
    • Safe Auto Minimizer (2009)
