Spitfire (later called Spitfire Monster Truck) was a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette ProMod monster truck owned by Live Nation Motorsports (later FELD Motorsports).

History[]

Spitfire made its debut at the World Finals IX encore along with Backwards Bob. Gary Porter would be the truck's lone driver, however.

Lawsuit[]

Several months after the World Finals, Monster Jam received a lawsuit from the Royal Air Force due to copyright issues with trademarking the truck's name. This resulted in the encore footage being completely omitted from all DVDs and material regarding the World Finals.

On May 12th, 2008, the truck would be trademarked as "Spitfire Monster Truck" and was featured under said name in Monster Jam: Urban Assault.

In 2009, Dragon's Breath was released under the Hot Wheels Monster Jam toy lines, which shared the same design as Spitfire, but with a different name.

In 2011, the truck's design would be re-purposed to become Dragon's Breath which ran until 2014, when it was replaced by Dragon.

On June 30th, 2015, the trademark for Spitfire Monster Truck officially expired, although an abandonment notice was filed on March 22nd, 2009.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Both the "Spitfire" and "Spitfire Monster Truck" names were only used once. Spitfire was exclusively used at the World Finals while the latter name was used exclusively in Monster Jam: Urban Assault.
  • Had Spitfire began competition in 2009, it would have been driven by Paul Cohen, as Cohen ran the chassis with an impromptu Monster Mutt body for the 2009 season. The chassis was formerly Vette King's original chassis, which shared the same body style.
